Komatsu Ltd. announced the release of an all-electric and remote-controlled mini excavator, which will become the basis for the introduction of all-electric construction equipment in the future. This innovative 3 tonne mini excavator builds on Komatsu's technology expertise in electric forklifts and mini excavators. It features new technologies such as lithium-ion batteries and electric cylinders and does not use hydraulics. Powered entirely by electricity, this excavator produces no emissions, noise or heat, ensuring trouble-free operation in all conditions. In addition, it requires no maintenance due to the absence of hydraulic components.
Because the excavator does not require an operator on board, Komatsu has developed new control and performance solutions. The vehicle controller and operating device are connected via wireless LAN, eliminating the need to install special equipment and allowing remote control operations to be carried out in any operating environment. The operator can choose the operating devices of the vehicle at his own discretion. This mini excavator offers a new way to work without landing, reducing operator fatigue and increasing productivity. Thanks to electrification and remote control, this machine makes it easier to work in confined and dangerous places, such as demolition and rescue operations after natural disasters.
Komatsu launched PC30E-5 mini excavators in Japan last year and plans to introduce electric mini excavators with a lithium-ion battery system in Europe next year. The company is working to accelerate the commercialization of green construction equipment and secure its foothold in the future.
